AIDS, HIV & Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Travel has contributed in a general way to the global spread of HIV, but fear of traveling because of AIDS is not justified. Following the guidelines in this chapter will make the chance of contracting the virus extremely remote. You may have heard stories of travelers getting HIV from emergency transfusions of unsafe blood, but these situations are rare: "emergency injections" that might lead to HIV infections are almost never required.

Knowing the causes and prevention of AIDS is no different than knowing about any other infectious disease; there are guidelines to protect you. This chapter will give you those specific guidelines. Don't let exaggerated or distorted information keep you at home.
