Lyme Disease

LYME DISEASE

Lyme disease is a potentially serious illness that occurs worldwide. The disease was first recognized in the United States in 1975, following an investigation of a group of children with arthritis in Lyme, Connecticut. Lyme disease is now the most common tick-transmitted illness in the United States. In 1998, more than 16,000 cases were reported, an increase of nearly 20% over the number of cases reported in 1995.

The most serious aspect of Lyme disease is not knowing you have it. Early signs and symptoms may not be noticed or may be misdiagnosed. Untreated illness can cause serious health problems.
